Google Expeditions
Google Expeditions is a virtual reality teaching tool that lets you lead or join immersive virtual trips all over the world — get up close with historical landmarks, dive underwater with sharks, even visit outer space!
Built for the classroom and small group use, Google Expeditions allows a teacher acting as a “guide” to lead classroom-sized groups of “explorers” through collections of 360° and 3D images while pointing out interesting sights along the way.
Now you can take a tour by yourself using Google Expeditions Solo Mode. Check out Santa's Journey as Google explains Santa using... Science (Lesson Plan)! Visit the White House Holiday Tour, or cross the pond and see Edinburgh Castle in Scotland all decorated up for the holidays. Or simply check out any of the other 700+ Expeditions that are now available. A full List of the Current Expeditions linked to many lesson plans and scene descriptors can come in very handy while dreaming up ways to use this within the classroom. (Hint: Don't forget to use the Find feature {Command + F on a Mac) in Sheets to easily search for keywords.)
The best part is, you only need your own smartphone, the free Expeditions app and a piece of cardboard to explore and get started.
Check out our presentation for more information on Planning Your Trip with Google Expeditions.
